Good Eats

So this week was kinda fun, instead of eating lunch at member's houses, they gave us money. This happens a couple times a month, when people are busy and aren't able to have us over, but it happened literally every day this week.

On Thursday I made it to 6 months!!! We celebrated by eating at this place called Beko's Chicken: O Verdadeiro Sabor Americano. Two Americans can confirm: it truly is the just like we were in states. I had onion rings which made me super happy. We also made cookies and ate ice cream that night.

On Saturday night, Maria made us arepas! Maria is one of the people we are teaching from Venezuela. She was a chef in Venezuela and had her own restaurant so of course they were dang good.

I love you all! Have a great week and Happy thanksgiving!

How to make cookies in Brazil

Hi fam!!!!

This week's gonna be short, but I'm doing well and I'm really happy here. We found some cool new people to teach, one is an older couple named Cecelia and Irineu and the other is a super sweet 18-year-old girl named Pamela. We went to visit someone and they weren't home and we walked a little bit and decided to knock on a door and found Pamela. We got to know her a little bit and found out that she had tried to commit suicide about a month ago and after this experience, felt she needed to turn to God in her life. We shared Alma 7 with her and she said she really "identified" with the chapter. It was a special experience to bear testimony of the Savior's love for us with her.

Miracles are real you guys. The church is true. This week, more than anything, I learned the power of sincere prayer. I know that He is really listening. He is our Father. And He answers prayers.

I love you all so much!

We spent last p-day with Jennifer in centro and got acai with her. A good time.

We ordered pizza Saturday night and it was delicious

We wanted to make cookies, but the thing is, I have never found chocolate chips here so I cut up a candy bar and made it work. it was Sister Rassi's recipe and they were delicious.

I'm sunburned, covered in bug bites but happy

This week we saw a lot of miracles. I know that we are lead to people and to moments where we can testify to people and in those moments I know that I'm cumprindo meu propósito (accomplishing my purpose). We visited Jenivar and Cleidemar and taught them that now they've entered the path, they have to perseverar até o fim (endure to the end). I was really tired and hot (and fasting), but in the middle of the lesson, I sat up a little straighter and was able to testify that I know that there is only path that leads us back to our Heavenly Father. It is not easy. The path is straight and narrow, but if we endure to the end, we will have eternal life. I know that that is why I'm here and the invitation to come unto Christ and be baptized doesn't come from me, it is the Savior's invitation. We are just His messengers. I know that the gospel is true, because if it wasn't I wouldn't be where I am today. But I'm here, in Brazil, talking to people in the streets and knocking doors because I know that the message we carry is salvation.

Share the gospel with your friends and family. Each day draw closer to Christ. We all need to be converted each day. I love you all.

Sigue os sussurros do espírito

Hey y'all,

Mais uma aqui em Passo Fundo! So I'm staying in Passo Fundo this transfer (which I said last week), but it's kinda fun because this will be a 7 week transfer. But it's good, because I love the members here and I love my companion. Sister Rassi is the oldest of 7 kids, she's super sweet, and she's got one transfer more than me here in the field. She likes to bake (bless up!) and I finally have a companion who likes to run in the morning! We get along well and I'm excited for this transfer.

This week for Halloween my comp make pumpkin bread which we literally demolished in less than 24 hours. Each of us would sneak some more during study and that night too. It was so funny. On Tuesday night, on our way home, we picked up a gallon of ice cream. On Wednesday, we got pizza because there's this takeout deal at X.com, our favorite pizzeria, that's one large pizza, flavor of the day, for 20 reais ($5). It's basically my favorite thing ever.

The beginning of the week was hot, the second half of the week it rained. And I mean it RAINED. On Friday night, we were walking to a lesson at 8pm (after getting lost in a neighborhood I had never been to in my 2.5 months here, it was super sketchy and I thought we were gonna die), then it started POURING out of NOWHERE so saw a woman on her porch, asked if we could come in because of the rain, and taught her on her porch. We taught her, marked another appointment, and the rain stopped after 20 minutes. Coincidence? I think not. Walking home that night, it started raining again and we were like 30 minutes from our house still, so we started running (oh and btw we didn't have jackets or umbrellas or anything), and it was so so fun. We were soaked, probably looked like we were crazy: 2 girls in dresses, running through centro at 9pm in the rain, but 10/10 would recommend the experience.

Yesterday we were on our way to lunch and were trying to teach just one person before lunch. I looked at our options and didn't feel like we should walk all the way to them, so I looked for an address that was closer. We turned onto a street, and saw someone who we had taught but had dropped because she never went to church, in her front yard. I went over to talk to her, and she invited us in, and we found out that she had had a horrible week. She lost her husband a few months ago, and now works to provide for herself, and she hadn't been able to work all week. No one called her. She was super depressed, until that morning when she decided to pick herself up, get dressed, and go work in her yard, minutes before we passed by. We were able to teach her and this time around, she was like a different person. She promised to go to church this week and we're gonna go by her house and walk with her. She said she has wanted to go, but the past times felt like something was stopping her. She had gotten up, walked to the end of her street, then turned around and returned home. We testified that as real as God is, there is an adversary too and he will do everything to stop us from being happy. I know we arrived at exactly the right moment and were guided to her by the God who knows all things. It is incredible to me how He works through such simple means, and it's a testament to how we must always be in tune with the spirit so we can hear and follow the small promptings and be that instrument in His hands.

Jennifer and Jenivar were confirmed yesterday which was a special moment. The church is true and I know that this gospel is the only caminho that will lead us to eternal life. This is salvation. This is my why. I'm grateful every day to have the gospel in my life and I'm here to share this joy with others.

2 Nephi 31:21 - And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen.

I love you all with all my heart,
Sister Dobbs
